Afraid of the Dark
too many people are afraid of the Dark.
they shy away from the Shadows and cling to their Sun.
they have flashlights, candles and lanterns
to banish the Darkness
they close their eyes tight
and pull the covers over their head like children.
they only come out in the Daylight
and rush through whenever they're caught without it, in the cold Dark.
but me? i'm afraid of the Light.
the blinding Shine, so full of reflective surfaces and Bright Daytimes.
i've spent too much time in the Dark, my eyes burn in the overpowering Daylight.
i soak up Shadows like a flower soaks water
and i too bloom, just as bright.
and so i will wait here, in the Dark,
until the time comes that i am needed
to guide those Afraid of the Dark
only to leave them as they step into the Light.
